It’s a powerful little word isn’t it?
We hear it a lot in this business. And that’s a good thing, because you’ve got to get used to hearing it. No matter where you are on the great sliding scale of an author’s career, you never reach a point where you stop hearing “No.”
And it can be a little intimidating. I’ll grant you that. It’s always a little bit dangerous and unsettling to put yourself out there where someone can say “No” to you.
And if “No” is all you’re hearing lately, it can make it difficult to put yourself out there. You might figure that, since “They’re” going to say “no” anyway, why not skip to the end and not even send anything out.
That’s called self-rejection and you shouldn’t do that.
Why is that, you ask?
Well, for starters, there are enough people out there that’ll tell you “No”, so why add to the list.
Second, and most important, ask yourselves this:
Why Not You?
Why shouldn’t you put yourself out there? You don’t know what’s going to happen. You don’t know if someone is going to fall in love with your work.
You don’t know.
What you do know is that someone, somewhere out there is going to really love that next story.
Why shouldn’t it be yours?
Thanks for reading. Be safe out there. Be Excellent to each other.
